Several Students Injured In A Major Scuffle At JNU For Cooking ‘Non-Veg’ Food On Ram Navami

New Delhi: Several students injured after a major scuffle in Jawahar Lal Nehru University over the cooking of ‘non-vegetarian’ food on Ram Navami. The brawl broke between the ‘ABVP students and Left students’ in the university.

As per reports the non-vegetarian food was being served in the hostel mess on the occasion of Ram Navami, on Sunday.

A female student named as Ankita Ansari suffered a major head injury in the brawl. Both the sides accused each other for the incident and injuring the students. As per the information, the Kaveri hostel mess was the main spot of the incident and according to the All India Students Association (AISA) there has been a stressful situation since the late afternoon as the ABVP students tried to prevent the cooking of the non-veg food.

“Condemn the attempt to intentionally disrupt peaceful campus atmosphere by ABVP hoodlums. The goons continue to riot in and around Kaveri hostel, breaking bikes, and beating hostellers and students. Police have arrived at the spot but are refusing to do anything despite students’ request to intervene,” claimed the student union.

The ABVP has also claimed that the ‘Left students’ tried to create disturbance in the Pooja of Ram Navami being conducted in the hostel.

Violent clash occured in between ABVP students and Left students for preparing ‘non-vegetarian’ food on the occasion of Ram Navami.

The student union said in a press release, “On the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, residents of Kaveri Hostel, JNU had organised a pooja to celebrate the event. This event was supposed to be joined by a large number of common students of JNU. It is also noteworthy that Ramzan is being celebrated in the hostel very peacefully and simultaneously. This pooja was supposed to start at 3.30, but due to the ruckus created by leftists, it could only start at 5 pm. This pooja was joined by a large number of common students of JNU. The Leftists came to object, obstruct and prevent the pooja from happening. They have created a false ruckus on the issue of ‘Right to Food’ (Non-Vegetarian Food).”

The Southwest Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Manoj C has stated that the current situation is peaceful and the complaint has been filed and strict actions will be followed accordingly.

He further added, “Presently the situation is peaceful, both the student parties are protesting peacefully. Appropriate action will be taken based on the complaint.”
