New Delhi: “Attempts are being made to give a mischievous interpretation” said the government today on the comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the ‘All-Party Meeting’ which was held yesterday.

The All-Party Meeting was called to discuss the violent face-off between Indian and Chinese soldiers in Galwan Valley, Eastern Ladakh.

PM Modi gave a statement, “Neither have they intruded into our border, nor has any post been taken over by them (China). 20 of our jawans were martyred, but those who dared Bharat Mata, they were taught a lesson.”

He further said, “Today, we possess the capability that no one can eye even one inch of our land. India’s armed forces have the capability to move into multiple sectors at one go. Whether it is deployment, action, counter-action…air, land or sea, whatever our armed forces have to do to protect our country they will do.”

The government said in a statement today, “As regards transgression of LAC (Line of Actual Control), it was clearly stated that the violence in Galwan on 15 June arose because Chinese side was seeking to erect structures just across the LAC and refused to desist from such actions.”

The government further said, “What is Indian Territory is clear from the map of India. This Government is strongly and resolutely committed to that. Insofar as there is some illegal occupation, the APM (all-party meeting) was briefed in great detail how over the last 60 years, more than 43,000 sqkm has been yielded under circumstances with which this country is well aware. It was also made clear that this Government will not allow any unilateral change of the LAC.”

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “PM has surrendered Indian territory to Chinese aggression. If the land was Chinese: 1. Why were our soldiers killed? 2. Where were they killed?”

Congress leader P Chidambaram also tweeted, “If no Chinese troops had crossed the LAC into Indian territory, why did Foreign Minister Jaishankar’s statement refer to restoration of status quo ante?”

The opposition is slamming PM Modi and central government on his remarks on the incident of Galwan valley. 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in a violent India China face-off on 16-June-2020.
