London, UK: Oxford University, AstraZeneca’s experimental COVID-19 vaccine has shown promising effects on the Coronavirus. The early-stage clinical trials in healthy volunteers showed that the vaccine is safe and can produce an immune response.

The vaccine is officially called as AZD1222 and is under further development by AstraZeneca. The vaccines trials are currently under process at Britain’s University of Oxford. The vaccine has not shown any side-effects which was the major concern of the scientists.

According to the study the COVID-19 vaccine AZD1222 can be of a short term vaccine to cure and prevent the virus. The killer T – Cells are said to last much longer in the human body as they recognize and kill a virus-infected cell in the body, preventing the infection from growing.

However, the recent studies have claimed that the protective antibodies in COVID-19 patients may wane off within three months.

According to a source in the trail, which shared the information to ‘The Daily Telegraph,’ the results are “Extremely Promising.”

According to the study the vaccine may provide “Double Protection” by triggering the infected body to elicit “Antibodies” and the killer “T – Cells” immune responses. The results were published in The Lancet medical journal.

The lead author of the study Andrew Pollard from the University of Oxford said, “We hope this means the immune system will remember the virus, so that our vaccine will protect people for an extended period.”

He further said, “However, we need more research before we can confirm the vaccine effectively protects against SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection, and for how long any protection lasts.”

It is said that the vaccine may be available by the end of September.

The Chairman of Berkshire Research Ethics Committee, David Carpenter, who approved the Oxford trail said, “Nobody can put final dates… things might go wrong but the reality is that by working with a big pharma company, that vaccine could be fairly widely available around September and that is the sort of target they are working on.”
