Massive Power Interruption Takes Over Mumbai City: Train Services Suspended Temporarily, BMC Announces Restoration

Mumbai reported a major power cut on Monday, after the local residents of the city took the issue over Twitter. The breakdown of power supply has occurred across Navi Mumbai and Thane as per the recent updates.

Cause of the power outage has been referred to the stumbling of the power lines power supply to Mumbai and MMR. The interruption of electricity in the metropolitan city reportedly occurred at 10:05 a.m. and has been announced to be restored nearly 45 minutes to an hour as per BMC and authorities concerned.

The major power interruption in the city has put all the electric based work on halt along with inconveniences faced by the residents. The electric supply failure has resulted in suspension of the local train services in the city. Central railway announced of the suburban trains to have held up due to grid failure in the financial capital of the country and requested the public to bear with till the situation is normalized again.

Nitin Raut, Energy Minister clarified the power outage stating that MSETCL 400 kv Kalwa- Padgha GIS circuit one unit was transferred for its repair and maintenance which caused heavy load over the second circuit unit; Due to technical error in the second circuit unit this electric supply failure occurred, as per Raut.

Brihanmumbai Electricity supply and Transport (BEST), said in a tweet on the electricity failure that, “The electric supply is interrupted due to TATAs incoming electric supply failure. Inconvenience is regretted.” Civic body in the city has ordered the hospitals in the city to assure diesel supply in adequate amount for about eight hours for no interruption of power supply their, and majorly in the ICUs. BMC, Mumbai even shared helpline numbers for the affected ones.

The critical services have been given major supplies by the power suppliers, as Adani Electricity also emphasized on the grid restoration in the state assuring power supply to the censorious services “ in around 385MW through AEML Dahanu generation”.

As the locals shared the power cut faced in the city, celebrities such as Amitabh Bacchan also took it to social media platforms. He tweeted, “Entire city in power outage…. Somehow managing this message….keep calm all shall be well,”

As per the recent reports power supply in the city is being gradually restored in few areas including Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, Churchgate in South Mumbai and Mumbra in Thane in afternoon. Other services are still undergoing restorations and would be updated soon.
