Kerala tops with highest literacy rate at 96.2%, Andhra ranks last with 66%, Delhi positioned 2nd

As per Reports Andhra Pradesh has 66% literacy rate and is behind Bihar which is 70.9%.

In a recent report of Education by National Statistical Office (NSO) survey, Kerala once again gained it place at the top of  literacy rate tally with of 96.2% literacy rate once again became the most literate state in India. Followed by National capital Delhi with 89% of literacy rate. With this a well-known conjecture about South Indian states being more literate in comparison to North Indian states was busted.

Other South Indian States such as Telangana ranks 4th last with 72.8%, Tamil Nadu is on 8th position with 82.9% and Andhra Pradesh is ranks worst on last position with 66.4%.

The report on ”Household Social Consumption: Education in India as part of 75th round of National Sample Survey – from July 2017 to June 2018” issues state-wise detail of literacy rate of persons with 7 years of age and above.

Delhi on 2nd followed by Himachal Pradesh and Assam on 3rd and 4th place 87.6% and 86.6% respectively and Assam at the fifth place with 85.9 %.

However Rajasthan is the second last performer with 69.7% and Bihar the third last with 70.9%.

The report summarised the total literacy rate of India about 77.7% whereas in rural areas it’s about 73.5 % and is 87.7 per cent in urban areas of the country.

The survey showed that the male literacy rate is higher in all states comparably to the female literacy rate. The country has 84.7% male literacy rate and 70.3% female literacy rate.

In Kerala, the male literacy rate is 97.4 and female is 95.2%; in Delhi for males it is 93.7% and for females it is 82.4%, Andhra Pradesh has 73.4% literate males and 59.5% literate females. For study 64,519 samples of rural households were collected from 8,097 villages and 6,188 blocks were examined.

The report also disclosed that about 4% of rural and 23% of urban families owned computers and between 15-29 years of age about 24% of peoples in rural and 56% in urban areas are able to operate computers. And in 15-29 years age group 35% of persons used internet 30 days before the date of survey.
