Hatred Spread Over Twitter After Tanishq Releases An Advertisement, Accused Of Portraying “Love Jihad”: Commercial Taken Down

Secularism has been questioned immense number of times in the country. Depiction of anything against the beliefs of a certain community often takes a negative turn. On Monday, after an advertisement was released by Tanishq Jewelers which portrayed inter- religion marriage. The advertisement received a critical retaliation as well as the people demanded to ban the company by making hash tags such as “#BoycottTanishq” and made the hashtags trending over Twitter.

The video depicts a Hindu girl who is escorted by her mother in law for a baby shower ceremony. The portrayal by the advertisement makes the audience believe that the girl is overwhelmed by the family’s gesture of performing the rituals which is not done in a Muslim family. This depiction is clearly revolted by the Hindu community. The commercial video was titled, “Ekatvam” to celebrate unity in oneness.

The advertisement brought calling for boycott as more than 17,000 people tweeted against it. The tweets pointed out “Love Jihaad” to have depicted by the jeweler company and mentioned it to be unrealistic. One of the tweet said, “What #tansihq is showing – Hindu Girl 100% safe in Muslim house. What actually happen – Hindu Girl trapped in love jihad and get killed. Hindu girls are 0% safe in other religion houses. So don’t go by this sick company mindset.”

People showed rage over the social media stating that the advertisement is trying to promote Love Jihaad.

Prominent personalities of the country also commented on the commercial where some attacked the advertisement and the company, while the others supported the move. Actress Kangana Ranawat opposed the video content commenting that the commercial had an execution problem and not the concept. Other parliamentarian members such as Shashi Tharoor supported the commercial saying it depicts unity between the two religions.
