Google Dedicates Its Doodle In The Memory Of Iconic Actor & Dancer Zohra Shegal

We often seen that google do different types of things with its doodle, on Thursday google make a beautiful reminiscence of veteran actor and dancer Zohra Sehgal and dedicated its doodle on the anniversary of her film which was released in 1946, Neecha Nagar.

On this day Neecha Nagar was released at the Cannes International film festival.

A statement on the doodle page of Google.com said, “Guest artist Parvati Pillai’s illustration was a celebration of ‘one of the country’s first female actors to truly achieve recognition on the international stage.’ Neecha Nagar won the festival’s highest honour – the Palme d’Or prize – that year.”

On April 27, 1912 Sahibzadi Zohra Begum Mumtaz-ullah Khan was born in Saharanpur in the British India. Zohra Begum went to Germany to gain the knowledge about dance. She took admission in prestigious ballet school in Dresden, which was located in Germany.

After that Zohra also joined the academy of pioneer Indian dancer Uday Shankar. He toured the world with his troupe. After that she came back to India in 1945 and entered in acting field where she joined the Indian People’s Theatre Association.

Her journey was just like a roller-coaster ride. In 1962 she got an opportunity from Britain to join a television show. Zohra went to London to showcase herself as a good actor and earned the name for herself.

She did British Television series like “Doctor Who” after that in 1984 she got a chance to work in a mini-series named “The Jewel in the Crown.” After doing some good work in foreign countries she came back to India and continued to work in the film industry.

In 2002, she celebrated her 90th birthday and even at that point she didn’t stop her work. Zohra astonished the audiences when she did a British film “Bend It Like Beckham.”

She also worked with the legendary actors of Bollywood including Amitabh Bachchan.

She was honoured with numerous awards including – Padma Shri in (1998), Kalidas Samman in (2001), Padma Vibhushan in (2010) and many more.

The actor/dancer Zohra was always remembered for her enthusiasm and the honesty for her work. She passed away in 2014, crossing a centenary with 102 years of joyful life.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paid his respect by tweeting about her death, “Prolific & full of life, Zohra Sehgal made a mark through her acting, which is admired across generations. Saddened on her demise.”

She is not with us anymore but her marvellous pieces of art will always be with us.  Zohra was an impeccable actor.
