Pangong, East Ladakh:

It’s been a long time that seeing China not deterring from its habits like every time, on the night of 29 August to 30 August, China once again infiltrated East Ladakh which is considered to be a part of south part of Pangong south bank.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, “it is clear that China was trying to change the status quo in violation of the previous agreement in the southern area of Pangong south bank, which has been thwarted by the army. The statement said that the army is committed to protecting its territory. This area is also very important for India.”

In view of all these incidents, on Monday, the Army has given a statement that “measures to strengthen our positions thwart Chinese intentions.”

Pangong Lake is about 4270 meters high and is about 135 kilometres long. Its entire area is about 600 square km.  About two-thirds of the lake is occupied by China, while only 45 km is under India. The western part of the lake is divided by LAC.

The latest controversy occurred is in the southern part of Pangong south bank. This disputed area is close to the black top, which is about 25 km east of Chushul. However, China has control over the black top. But the presence of the Indian Army here troubled Chinese PLA.

“Indian troops pre-empted this PLA activity on the Southern Bank of Pangong Tso Lake, taking measures to bolster our position and thwart Chinese intentions to unilaterally change facts on the ground. The Indian Army is committed to maintaining peace and tranquillity through dialogue, but is equally determined to protect its territorial integrity,” the Indian Army said that a brigade commander level flag meeting is going on in Chushul to resolve the issues.

After Monday’s meeting, it is reported that the meeting will continue on Tuesday as well.
