Champions League: Lyon FC knocks out Juventus, Manchester City enters quarters outshining Real Madrid

Juventus failed to grab win against Lyon FC despite Ronaldo’s double goal and Manchester City entered quarter-finals overshadowing Real Madrid.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo’s double goal giving 2-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais in the ongoing Champions League on Friday 7th July but wasn’t plentiful as the French football club entered the Quarter finals but lost on away goals.

Lyon FC advanced in the 12th minute with a continual penalty granted after a foul made by Rodrigo Bentancur.

Two minutes before the halftime Ronaldo equalized the score. Ronaldo scored his second goal without alarming and hit the ball over Anthony Lopes from 25 metres. Goeba failed to score their third goal with the match finishing on 2-2 draw directing the Les Gones side into final eight.

Juventus’s Under-pressure boss Maurizio Sarri said he was pleased with the team’s performance even after their elimination at the hands of Lyon in the Champions League round-of-16.

Sarri said “I thought we put in a great performance this evening. The team has revitalised itself over the last few days, and if they weren’t devastated in their confidence by the elimination, I’d be very satisfied with their performance.”

“If I take away the huge disappointment at the elimination, then I am very happy with the team this evening, as they showed character and gave their all. If we hadn’t been eliminated, I’d return home happy tonight.” Sarri added.

Houssem Aouar of Lyon FC as he glided across the pitch and was always available in midfield the 22-year-old gave a superb display of his skills and talent.

Real Madrid got eliminated from the Champions League with Manchester City winning the game after thrashing Real Madrid with a 4-2 aggregate in the Etihad Stadium Friday 7th August. Real went down after 2-1 from the first-leg with their suspended skipper and defensive lynchpin Sergio Ramos sitting outside , the Real Madrid team made a catastrophic start, giving away the victory to Manchester City in the very ninth minute of the match itself.
