‘Black Widow, West Side Story, Eternals’ release shelved, analysts predict 70-80% domestic grosses decline

The release of these films has been delayed for several months. Hollywood Analysts have also predicted 70-80% contraction in the domestic grosses owing to the COVID pandemic.

With the film business almost winding up temporarily in the COVID-19 pandemic, many big-budgeted films were and are being delayed in the now the new entrant in this tally are the likes of popular Hollywood films such as Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson, Steven Spielberg’s directorial West Side Story and Marvel Studio’s Eternals and Kenneth Branagh’s ‘Death on the Nile’ will now hit theatres several months later.

Disney postponed the release of these much awaited blockbusters. However much to the surprise of people the Disney Studios has kept the November release of Pixar’s animated comedy “Soul” will hit theatres at its fixed date that is 19th November 2020 shocking the industry who expected the animated family film to either move to a later rest or will be released on Disney Plus.

The releases of these movies would have been shelved but has guaranteed that the Box office revenues this year will reach touch the depths and analysts have already estimated that the domestic grosses this year would experience a decline upto 70-80%.

It was reported earlier that the Disney Studios was eyeing a new release date to reveal the film on silver screen after the discouraging show of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ in the U.S. and following the delay ‘Wonder Woman 1984’.

‘Black Widow’ starring Scarlett Johansson which was set to release on 6th November will now open on 7th May 2021. “Death on the Nile which is a sequel to the 2017 box office hit will now be unveiled on 18th December 2020 pulling out of its original release on Oct 23rd.

Steven Spielberg’s first onset into musicals “West Side Story” was expected to be central candidates at the Academy Awards may find it’s worth in the Oscars but in the next year’s category and will be released a year later from its original release on 10-Dec-2021 instead of Dec 18, 2020.

‘Eternals’ which star Angelia Jolie, Richard Madden directed by Chloe Zhao will debut on Nov 5, 2021 rather than 12th Feb 2021.
