Bihar Flood Situation Worsens, 54 Lakh People Affected In 14 Districts, 13 Died

Rise in Water level of all rivers flowing in Bihar is expected, according to the Met Department.

Patna, Bihar: The Bihar flood situation worsens as the water from the overflowing rivers has acquired the fresh areas affecting nearly 54 lakh people across 14 districts.

Many rivers such as Baghmati, Burhi Gandak, Kamlabalan, Adhwara, Khiroi, Mahananda and Ghaghra are flowing above the danger level at various places.

The Disaster Management Department said that no fresh casualty was reported and 13 people have died of floods.

Nearly 4.7 lakh people have been recently affected due to floods and their rising water levels in the fresh areas in Bihar. However, only 14 districts have been affected so far.

The Muzaffarpur is the worst-hit districts as nearly 16.90 lakh people were affected, followed by Darbhanga with 12.40 lakh people and East Champaran with 8.10 lakh people affected.

Darbhanga district has registered half of the 13 deaths in Bihar as 7 people died in Darbhanga district.

As situation worsens a total of 20 (Natural Disaster Response Force) NDRF teams and State Disaster Response Force) SDRF teams are deployed to rescue the people from the affected areas.

According to a data, 26,734 people were rescued and are staying in 19 relief camps with nearly 9.29 lakh people are being fed at 1,385 community kitchens in the affected districts.

The Meteorological Department has forecasted rise in the water level of rivers as light rain is expected in the catchment areas of all rivers flowing in the state on Monday.

Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Supaul, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, West Champaran, East Champaran, Khagaria, Saran, Samastipur, Siwan and Madhubani are the 14 districts which are affected by the floods in Bihar.
