Bayern Munich German Wins Super Cup, Lifted Fifth Title Of Year By Defeating Borussia Dortmund

Joshua Kimmich's goal in the 82nd minute clinched the host team Germany’s Super Cup tournament on Wednesday, along with securing their fifth title of the year after Dortmund battled back from a two-goal deficit in a thrilling match at an empty Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich won the Super Cup beating Borussia Dortmund by 3-2 on Wednesday, 30th September, securing their fifth title of the year. After wasting a two-goal lead, Munich acquired a lucky 82nd- minute winner from Joshua Kimmich.

Bayern fought back from 2-0 before Kimmich made the difference, the midfielder laid hold of the ball in his specialised area, playing a one-two with Robert Lewandowski and kicked his bounced back shot off with foot into the net after it was earlier blocked.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick, who took enjoyed 10 months of charge after taking over charge in November 2019 said “It was not that easy especially in the second half. We led 2-0 but then made our own life difficult. What counts is that we won the game. Everything else we will need to do better on Sunday (against Hertha).”

Bayern, lost to Hoffenheim by 4-1 on Sunday after which the Die Bayern team was longing to rebound back their Sunday which also broke their 32-game unbeaten run.

Dortmund managed this win without Thorgan Hazard, presently injured, while first-choice goalkeeper Roman Burki and winger Jadon Sancho were unwell. Both have tested negative for coronavirus.

Bayern also won the German league and Cup double, the Champions League and the European Super Cup this year and now the Super Cup their fifth win was icing on the cake.

This was also Bibiana Steinhaus’s last game before retirement, who became the first female referee to oversee men’s Bundesliga games in 2017.
