California, USA:

The two tech giants appear to be at loggerheads, as the Financial Times report suggests. As the Cupertino giant is found to be secretly developing its own search engine to beat the 20 year old veteran in the field. The report also noted that iOS 14 had deprived Google for a handful of its search functions.

The news marks its presence after the US department of Justice sued Google last week for exploiting its dominant market position.

A constitution of the lawsuit also pointed that Google submits big numbers to Apple to remain a principal search engine on iOS devices.

Apple had previously posted job offers for search engineers, asking them to “define and implement the architecture of Apple’s groundbreaking search technology.”

According to the Financial Times, Apple hired Google’s head of search, John Giannandrea, two years back. With plans to design and build artificial intelligence capabilities and its Siri virtual assistant.

Presently, Apple seems to be collecting enough data to support one of its missions,as indicated by increased activity from Apple’s web crawler.

“When the crawl rate increases, that tells us they are trying to gather more information”, said Sunganthan Mohandasan, an expert.

Pointing out its increased activity, Mohandasan told Financial Times that the Apple bot has come across a “ridiculous number of times” on his clients websites in the recent weeks.

The report also read, “Queries made in the search window accessed by swiping right from the iPhone’s home screen- which Apple calls ‘Today view’- show an Apple generated list of search suggestions rather than google results.”

“These results include ‘autocomplete’ style suggestions generated by Apple, showing that it is learning from its one billion users’ most common queries. “
